Guess what I'm doing this weekend?

Taking the principal certification test!!! Wish me luck. And feel free to say a little prayer around 2ish on Saturday.

(And maybe seeing Vanilla Ice in concert afterwards. Word to your mother.)

Any 1st and 15th Siestas out there?

I frequently read the Living Proof Ministries blog written by Beth Moore and her two daughters, Amanda and Melissa. For 2009, LPM has challenged their readers with scripture memory. The plan is to pick out a new verse to memorize on the 1st and another one on the 15th.....so if you follow the plan you'll memorize 24 pieces of scripture this year.
Since over 3000 people have posted that they will participate I was wondering if any of my real life friends were. If you are, then comment so we can encourage each other throughout this year. And I'd love to know what verses you are memorizing....

My verse for the first two weeks in January is Psalm 119:9-12
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart that
I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, O Lord,
teach me your decrees.

Christmas Morning

Christmas morning....

Noah woke up on Christmas morning....and discovered presents under the Christmas tree. (He didn't quite rush up the stairs to them or anything since he's only 6 months old. Josh and I tried to enjoy the leisurely Christmas morning and being able to eat breakfast before the opening began! I'm sure it won't be the same next year.)
Under the tree, Santa left Noah a sock monkey. Our little monkey was super excited about it.


He also found goodies in his stocking including Good Night Gorilla, teething rings and baby food. He also received God Gave Us You. Moms, if you aren't familiar with this book then I recommend you check it out. I got all teary in Walmart just reading it.


But he really loved the candy canes left in his stocking. Of course we left the plastic wrap on them since he's a little young for candy but you can still see the utter joy on his face as he sucked on them.

A White Christmas....

We celebrated Noah's first Christmas with our extended family in Iowa. We've spent a lot of holidays in Iowa but haven't seen snow like this in quite a while. Josh took these pictures from the kitchen windows at my aunt's house. The temperature on Christmas Eve when we went to church was 5 degrees. Just 5. It was unbelievably cold.

Luckily, Noah had a cute fuzzy bear suit to wear as we braved the cold to worship with the rest of our family.

After church we had some quick photo ops by the tree with Nanny and Poppy.

Then Noah did a quick change into his Christmas pjs and the cuddled with one of his favorite cousins, Ben. Ben is currently searching for a job and we're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll get one near us. Of course if he gets one in a cool city that we need to visit that would be cool too.

Then the taste testing began. My uncle had purchased several different types of beer and we spent a great deal of time tasting them and voting on which one was the best. I'm not a huge beer drinker so I couldn't hang quite as long as some of the other members of my family.

Christmas morning is a totally separate post, but the rest of Noah's time in Iowa involved fun activities like.....

...taking a bath in Aunt Peg's sink while the entire family watched.

....playing with Great Grandpa Lester.

.....hanging out with Uncle Tim, also known as the Baby Whisperer.

....and saying good-bye to mom and dad before we went sledding.

Josh had never been sledding before and our trip did not disappoint. My cousin Abby took us sledding on a great hill in Gateway Park near Iowa State. We quickly realized how out of shape we were as we huffed and puffed our way back up the hill after our first trip down. We both had some good wipe outs but no serious injuries occurred.
